François Hinard
François Hinard (born in 1941) is a French academic and historian, specialist in the Roman history.
Biography
François Hinard makes his higher learning with the Sorbonne and specializes in the Roman history. In 1967, it is received with the contest of the aggregation of traditional letters, and starts to teach as professor de Lettres with the college of Poissy. In same time, it is Part-time lecturer of French to the Université of Latin Paris X then of to the Université of Mans.Its university career continues with the Université Charles-of-Gaulle - Lille 3, where he is assistant then Latin lecturer of between 1972 and 1983.
In 1981, it is named professor of old story to the military special École of Saint-Cyr military school to Coëtquidan, where it teaches until in 1990.
In 1982, François Hinard supports his thesis of Doctorat of State in Sorbonne on the proscriptions of republican Rome , with the honourable mention Très (unanimously), which is published in 1985 by the French École of Rome.
Of 1983 with 1989, he is professor of Roman history and archeology to the Université of Caen, where he assumes during three years the direction of the UFR of History (1985 - 1988).
In 1989, he becomes professor of “Civilizations of Antiquity” to the Université of Paris IV and directs a “grouping of research” of CNRS and universities of Paris, Bordeaux, Nancy and Lyon for the edition, the translation and the comment of the Greek historian Dion Cassius (two published volumes, two in preparation).
Of 1993 with 1995, it takes up the duties of scientific director “Letters and social sciences”, then of director of the “Scientific information and technique and the libraries” to the ministry for Higher education and Research.
Of 1995 with 1999, it is vice-chancellor of the academy of Rheims, chancellor of the universities
François Hinard was, moreover, member of the scientific advice of the National university (1987 - 1991), member of the board of directors of the National library (1982 - 1993), Member of the Commissions of CNRS “the scientific information and his diffusion” and “the worlds of traditional antiquity” (1987 - 1991).
He is also director of collections for a certain number of publishers:

- Collection Ancient , at Boccard editor;
- Collection Past-Present , with the Presses univeristaires of Paris-Sorbonne.
