François Fabre (military)

François Fabre (1755-1827) was a French soldier.
His/her father, who was pomegranate lieutenant in the Régiment of Soissonnais-Infantry, and which had obtained by her bravery the Croix of Saint-Louis, was killed with the Siège of Manon in 1756. His/her grandfather, gendarme of the House of the King, Knight of Saint-Louis, was killed with the Bataille of Etlingen. Its great-grandfather, lieutenant with the Regiment of Soissonnais, was killed with the Siège of Fontarabie. This filiation is consigned in the registers numbers of the Régiment of Soissonnais.
François Favre was born in a quartering close to Monaco the September 27th 1755; but the colonel of Soissonnais, wanting to make it take part immediately in the pay of child reared by the army, made antedate the time of his birth.
Enlisted in the artillery brigade of Cosne, become Regiment of Toul (7th of artillery) on January 1st 1763, it became sergeant there on October 1st 1770. It formed part in 1778, of the Camp of Vaussière, ordered by the Maréchal of Broglie. Embarked with the Harbor, in June 1779, to belong to the forwarding directed by the Maréchal of Be worth, it was named lieutenant the July 7th even year. This forwarding not having taken place, Favre was directed on the coasts of Normandy, where it was used as 1780 with 1782.
The August 18th 1768, the board of directors of his regiment entrusted the use of district-Master-treasurer to him, whom it occupied with zeal and probity until April 1st 1791, time to which it was promoted with the rank of captain. Passed in 1792 with the command in third of the School of the pupils, it was usefully employed there during two years. It had received, on January 1st 1791, the cross of Chevalier of Saint-Louis.
Appointed major sub-manager of artillery with Strasbourg, the 10 brumaire year II, and directing chief of brigade of the forging mills the 15 ventôse even year, Favre made the wars of years II, III and IV in the the Vendée, where it was, moreover, employed extraordinarily, for this period, by the Comité of public hello, by the Minister for the war and that of the navy: it was with the attacks directed against the insurrectionists around Gholtet and of Saint-Andrew.
In the fire of Meudon, in germinal year IV, it was seriously wounded with the right foot, while precipitating in the middle of an explosion of 164 shells, in order to intercept a communication which went, to carry fire to 170 thousand of these projectiles and a store containing 30 thousands of powder. This fact was regarded as a brilliant deed by the Comité of public hello, which consigned it in the register of its deliberations, and made some make a honourable mention in the newspapers of time.
Passed with the Armed with Sambre-and-Meuse, it was pointed out there, in the year V and in year VI, with the battles of Neuwied, the attack of Esterdorff fears, with the blockade of Ehrenbreitstein and the Blocus of Mainz, and in all the partial businesses which took place in front of these two places. The Campagne of Germany of year VII did not make him less honor: it was announced in the various meetings with the enemy and accepted to it the most flattering encouragements on behalf of the general officers under the orders of which it was useful.
Returned in the interior at the beginning of year VIII, it was charged by the minister with the war with the inspection with the forging mills with the Republic. Sent to the Armed with the coasts of the Ocean in year XI, it accepted there the 19 frimaire year XII, the cross of the Légion of honor and the 25 meadow following that of officer of the same order.
During these last campaigns, it seized, on the coasts of Calais, a launch English drain-hole, the Woidlar , armed with 18 caronades of twenty-four. Colonel Fabre was employed with Maestricht at the end of year XIII, when it accepted the order to go to the Large army, where it made the campaigns of year XIV with 1807 with the 1st army corps of reserve.
Indicated to belong to the Armed with Spain, it attended the Siège of Gérone in July and August 1808, and was wounded there twice. The same year, it made take the broad one, with 2 only well directed parts of battle, with an English frigate and 3 launches Spanish drain-holes which intercepted the passage of the French columns; it was in the combat and partial businesses which preceded and followed the blockade and the attack of the place of Barcelona; there accepted a wound, was its sifted clothes of balls and a horse killed under him. The February 4th 1811, it defended body with Spanish body against three S which sought to make it captive, and accepted in this fight five wounds with the head and the knee. About this time, Napoleon i named it Baron of the Empire. After the wars of 1809 with 1811, it passed to the Armée with Catalonia, where it served until in 1814.
Returned in France at the end of this year, he addressed his tender to Louis XVIII, which named it commander of the Légion of honor the March 17th 1815. Put at the retirement of Brigadier the October 6th according to, it accepted, the December 11th 1816, the honorary patent of this rank.
It had, at the time of its retirement, fifty-two years of service, not included/understood eight years of child reared by the army. He died the December 21st 1827.
