François Denis Tronchet

François Denis Tronchet , born on March 23rd, 1723 in Paris, dead on March 10th, 1806 with Paris, was wire of a prosecutor of the Parliament. After solids studies, he becomes lawyer in 1745, jurisconsult and Politician French.

Elected of Paris to the general states the May 13rd 1789, it was initially opposed to the transformation those into constituent National Assembly, but ends up accepting responsibilities there. Three years and half later, it agreed to take part in the defense of Louis XVI, at the time of its lawsuit in front of the national Convention, in December 1792 and January 1793, which was worth some troubles besides to him and forced it to enter some time clandestinity, the Committee of general security having emitted an research opinion in its opposition.

Its escape hardly lasted and it was not long in opening a law firm to Paris, and was not worried any more.

During the Consulate, François Denis Tronchet multiplied the activities: chair Tribunal of cassation, member of the Council of Old of 1800 with 1804, senator of the Somme in 1801.

Napoleon Bonaparte indicated it to prepare, within a commission directed by Cambacérès, of 1800 with 1804, the Civil code of the French, called “Napoleon Code”.

Its ashes were transferred to the the Pantheon from Paris the March 17th 1806.

Tronchet took part in the development of a great number of law, concerning heredity legitimate and illegitimate child; it was in favor of division with equal shares between children of the successions, it is at the origin of the mortage law, and the majority of our municipal laws.
