François Datelin
François Datelin , known as Brioche Fanchon , is a famous showman of Marionnette S of.
Wire of Brioche Jean, it took again the puppet theater of his/her father to the fairs the St. Lawrence and Saint-Germain. According to Brossette, it still exceeded his father in the trade to make act and speak agreeably its puppets.
In 1677, Boileau immortalisé Brioché son in its VII E epistle addressed to Root: “And not far from the place where Brioché chairs…”
It is him whose monkey, Fagotin, were killed out of a blow of sword by Cyrano of Bergerac which had taken it for a lackey who made him the grimace, and gave place, on behalf of his/her former lover of Assoucy, with a curious literary opuscule entitled Combat of Cirano of Bergerac against the monkey of Brioche at the end of the Pont-Neuf : “II étoit large like a small man and buffoon in devil, his Master the avoit capped of an old vicuna including one plumet cachoit cracks and adhesive; he luy avoit girds the neck of a strawberry with the Scaramouche; it luy faisoit to carry a pourpoint to six moving Basque, furnished with passemens and aglets, clothing which sentoit laqueism; it to him avoit conceded a cross-belt from where pendoit a blade without point. ” The name and the use of Bundle of firewood, which succumbed in this so unequal duel against Cyrano, also survived to him and Bundle of firewood was, until the last years of, the obliged companion of any good player of puppets.
