François Cheng

François Cheng (name of author, in Chinese: 程抱一, " Which embraces the Unit " , Chéng Bàoyī in phonetic transcription Pinyin), born the August 30th 1929 in China, is a writer, Poète and Calligraphe Chinese naturalized French in 1971.

Resulting from a family of well-read men, it arrives to France in 1949, moved by its passion for the French culture. It carries out as from the years 1960 a university career, in particular with the École of the Eastern languages. It also launches out in translations of poems.

It started to only publish French books rather late, initially on Chinese painting, but also of poetic works. Judging to have acquired enough experiment, it can then launch out in the writing of novels.

In 2001 François Cheng the Grand Prix of the francophonie of the French Academy receives. June 13rd 2002 he is the first Asian elected official member of the French Academy. He is member of the High council of the Francophonie.
