François Chalais , of his true name François-Charles Bauer , is a journalist, international reporter and chronicler of French cinema, born with Strasbourg the December 15th 1919 and deceased with Paris of Leucémie on May 1st 1996.

François Chalais began in the press while writing from 1942 to 1944 in several newspapers collaborationnists, of which I am everywhere and Combats. With the Release, it nevertheless was decorated with the medal of Resistance, and entered to the Amaury press group, related to the Thermophilous resistance network. It directed the cultural pages of Crossroads of 1944 to 1952, and collaborated punctually in the two daily newspapers of the group, the Parisian one released in 1945, and the Team of 1949 with 1950. Later, it returned to the written press: France Soir of 1976 with 1986 and the Barber Magazine of 1980 with 1987, like Cinémonde.

Collaborator of the French Broadcasting-television as of 1949, international reporter for Five columns to, it interviewed the great names of the cinema in his television programs Cinépanorama and Reflets of Cannes (often with its accomplice and first wife France Rock).

He wrote 20 works including 17 novels and three books of memories whose the Chocolates of the interval (Carrère, 1989), writes some scenarios and carried out two telefilms.

In 1975, the price of the French Academy rewarded its work.

Its second wife, Mei Chen, made live its memory thanks to the Price François Chalais given each year to Cannes with a film dedicated to the values of journalism.
