François Cevert

François Cevert , of his true name Albert François Goldenberg , was a racing driver French born the February 25th 1944 with Paris (France), and deceased the October 6th 1973 on the circuit of Watkins Glen during the tests of GP of the United States.

Beginnings

Prize winner of the “Shell Wheel” in 1966 in front of Patrick To strip of straw, François Cevert (brother-in-law of Jean-Pierre Beltoise) becomes champion of France of Formule 3 in 1968. He runs in Formule 2 in 1969 at Tecno and then gains with the finish the Grand Prix of Rheims de Formule 2, in front of Jackie Stewart. Ken Tyrrell notices it then.

Formulate 1

In 1970, when Johnny Servoz-Gavin decides to give up the competition, Tyrrell Cevert to replace it in its stable, especially for its talents of pilot, and also to like its French sponsor chooses Elf. The Tyrrell Racing then makes run of the March in championship of the world of Formule 1.

At the sides of its British fellow-member Jackie Stewart (which will play the part of mentor for the young French pilot), François Cevert shows an unquestionable talent quickly. In 1971, first year when Tyrrell makes run its own cars, Cevert finishes 3rd championship of the world of the pilots and takes an active part in the championship of the world of the manufacturers of the Tyrrell stable. At the end of the year, it gains even in Watkins Glen its first success Formulates 1 of them. Young person, beautiful, cultivated, very popular (especially near the fair sex), Cevert is then the symbol of the revival of the French automobile sport.

The season 1972 was mitigated, with all the same two second places.

Cevert returns to the more high level in 1973. This year, it finishes six times 2nd (including three times behind its Stewart leader, thus playing the part of the model fellow-member since consent even of the British pilot, Cevert would have been able to dispute the victory to him). The retirement of Stewart at the conclusion of season 1973 being an open secret, much of observers then agree to make of Cevert the future leader of Tyrrell and one of the favorites of the season 1974. But at the time of the tests of the GP of the United States, which encloses the season 1973, it is victim of a fatal accident.
