Born in Lyon in 1937, François Caviglioli is high in a Corsican family. As of adolescence, he aspires to the trade “international reporter” and carries, for this purpose, an lively interest with the international topicality. Parallel to the studies of letters which it follows to Lyon, it at the time of publishing its first measuring rods with the Progrès of Lyon. Of this experiment, it especially has the memory of a “dream crashed to pieces” by the reality of a work consisting “of lunches of corporations”. It does not give up its vocation at the very least and works of it in various newspapers of which the Echo of the Press and Publicity, specialized weekly magazine. But in 1960 it makes knowledge, randomly meeting, of one of the persons in charge of Combat which entrusts the legal chronicle to him.

However, in a context marked by the lawsuits of OAS and the General Salan, its heading proves to be carrying and the occasion gives him to express its talent. In 1967, it draws from its cover of the Affaire Ben Barka its first book, Ben Barka in the judges (the Roundtable, collection “Scathing attacks”). Leaving Combat the same year, he works a time with New Adam before starting, about 1968, his first collaboration with the Nouvel Observateur. He draws from his collaboration to the two titles of the Perdriel group a collection of articles under the title the Blow of the life (Mercure de France, 1969).

But since 1969, he prefers to join Paris-Match where one offers a station “to him international reporter”. Because if it publishes the Large target, 1961-1964, the secrecies of the OAS (Mercure de France, 1972) which concerns its legal speciality, it finds especially the occasion to materialize its dream of childhood: report abroad. It thus on the occasion to attend with the fall of Saigon (April 1975) and the head office of Phnon Penh which, constitutes its “greater satisfaction to defer”. During its many voyages in the Indochinese peninsula, it catches the “yellow evil” which it looks after by frequent stays in Malaysia.

But the repurchase of the newspaper by Filipacchi causes its return, January 1977, in Nouvel Observateur. Attached to the service “Our Time” under the direction of Christiane Duparc, it can be devoted to its passion for the facts of company of any kind.

Extremely general-purpose journalist having satisfied his appetite of voyage, it expresses an exceptional talent of writing which the tendency only comes to sully that it has to treat of subjects on the mode of imagination more than of investigation. Except for the municipal elections of Paris which it covers in February - March 1977, it treats primarily various facts, police force and businesses. After being itself attached almost exclusively to the cover of the areas (December 1979 - June 1980), it treats with attention of the Chaine business (October 1980).

It divides with François Dupuis and of Fabien Gruhier an immoderate taste for the pleasures of the table and intoxication. Attracted with the Express train by Olivier Todd, it signs a contract of recruiting with this last. But, at the time to leave, it chooses to remain in Nouvel Observateur under the pressure of Claude Perdriel. In 1979, it is promoted international reporter. At side, he writes also scenarios for the cinema.

He continues his career of journalist in Nouvel Observateur, and takes part in the writing of many films of Pascal Thomas.
