François Cavanna is a writer and cartoonist French born in 1923 with Nogent-sur-Marne of an Italian father and Nevers-native mother.

Biography

During the war, Cavanna will leave to work in Germany within the framework of the STO. After having made its first weapons in the magazine Zero , he became cofounder of the magazine Hara-Kiri (monthly), then in 1969 of Hara-Kiri Hebdo which will become then Charlie Hebdo . Creator of a style of narration very particular and alive, always accessory to the reader, it was characterized like a large defender of the republican values and French language. Its standpoint virulent (in company of Delfeil de Ton and other writers) and argued against a spelling reform by the French Academy was very noticed.

In the name of these values, Cavanna has its life lasting carried out a combat against all that he considered irrational or unjust, inter alia the use of the suffering of the animals as agent of distraction of the human ones.

Georges Brassens, which divides them with him, will require his participation and that of the team of Charlie Hebdo for a clip which is turned of its song the king .

He was regarded by Pierre Desproges as one of the last alive great writers.

Alive myth

In the film sociology is a sport of combat (2001), pretty militant declares that for it Cavanna and Pierre Bourdieu are both " myths vivants" from our time.

Secession of Delfeil de Ton

Cavanna and Delfeil de Ton were scrambled in a serious way to beginning of the year 70. One like the other, like their friend Gébé, left what it was necessary as key so that one can include/understand with half-word why: it is clearly about a not political business, nor literary, but personal. Cavanna will be sorry decision of DDT to leave Charlie Hebdo , which affects some time its literary production in the weekly magazine. It will defend it against attacks of Jacques Martin, will insist on the fact that " Delfeil has here its place with Charlie Hebdo and can return when he wants it " , a waste of time and effort: the rupture is consumed.

Stop-bad cold (1976)

Cavanna showed some time obsessed by the questions of physical Immortalité of the man. His/her friends of Charlie Hebdo will often refer there in an admiring, semi semi way ironic (Wolinski in some drawings, Delfeil de Ton by some corrosive allusions, Gébé while dreaming in a poetic way on the question in some of its articles).

May 1968

In May 1968, François Cavanna is briefly hospitalized for a crisis hemorroïdaire. He thus cannot, much to his regret, to take part in the events. This episode is told with humor in its work Bête and malicious.

Desproges

" Seule the virulence of my heterosexuality to date empéché me to require Cavanna in marriage ". Desproges which collaborated in Charlie Hebdo (the first grinding) during the last year (1981-1982) was admiring talent of Cavanna that it compared with a modern Rabelais. According to him Cavanna was one of the honest last men of this rotted century (XXe) and the inventor of a new press.
