François Butcher , born the September 29th 1703 with Paris where he died the May 30th 1770, is a painter French 18th century. It is the typical example of the style Rococo.
After a formation near François Lemoyne, it gained the Prix of Rome in 1720 and remained in Italy of 1727 has 1731.
It obtained on its return successes of company, as well as the favor of Madam de Pompadour, and became the painter with the mode. It was allowed with the royal Académie of painting and sculpture as a member in 1734 and succeeded Carle Vanloo like First Painter of Louis XV in 1765. He worked with an extreme facility and praised himself to have gained up to 50.000 francs per annum.
He in particular painted pastoral or mythological scenes of a gracious virtuosity. Its late works are sensual, describing an idyllic world. Its style passed from mode with the arrival of the Néoclassicisme. It painted with grace, but one shows it to have corrupted art and to have introduced an insipid kind and manner.
The young person Jacques-Louis David was introduced to Boucher, which was a cousin distant from his mother, to become his pupil but this one preferred to entrust it to Joseph-Marie Vien. His/her son Juste-Nathan Boucher was architect and painter of ornament. His/her daughter married her pupil Jean-Baptiste Deshays de Colleville.
Problems in the reproductions
Attention with the reproductions which are not always respectful colors and luminosity. For example, in the two following images, first supplements and of good quality does not correspond at all to the real colors, the second, a detail of poor quality is much closer to reality with regard to the colors. It is for that often essential to see at least some originals of a painter to include/understand the sensitivities of color of them. This painting is visible with the Musée of Louvre to Paris.
The bright colors with let us tons pink and white, representing the flesh of a child and the promptness of the pinks, became reddish and dull on the reproduction of very good quality, but not very respectful of the colors. François Boucher liked to use this kind of colors very sharp, it was one of his great qualities of painter colourist.
In the same way Venus which to the very white skin with some bluish reflections légèrements and the cheeks pink, passed in let us tons yellow clearly, orange and red, once again not leaving at all same environment.
