François Benoist

François Benoist , born the September 10th 1794 with Nantes and dead the May 6th 1878 with Paris, was a Organiste and Compositeur French.
He studied with the Conservatoire of Paris and gained in 1815 the Prix of Rome for his cantata Œnone . In 1819 he became organist of the king and professor of organ to the Academy. It counted among its pupils César Franck, Camille Saint-Saëns, Charles Lecocq, Louis Lefébure-Wely and Adolphe Adam. As a type-setter, he wrote two opera S, several Ballet S, a Messe of requiem, and many parts for organ.
