François Antoine Joseph Nicolas Macors , major general.
There was, in the country of Liege, a family which one said to belong to the nobility, and which emigrated in France (the cause is ignored by it) at the end of the 16th century or at the beginning of the 17th century. It is of this family that was born F. - has. - J. - NR. Macors, with Benfelden (the Low-Rhine), the December 7th 1744.
It engaged like hussard in the Régiment of Nassau, on November 1st 1759. Having left this body, one knows neither why nor how, it engaged one second time in quality of gunner, in the Brigade of Honesty in 1760.
Named lieutenant in first with the Regiment of Auxonne-Artillery in 1765, he became under-assistance-major the December 14th 1767, assistant medical officer in 1772, first mate in 1778, captain of gunners the October 17th 1784, major of the artillery regiment of the colonies the next on November 1st; he accepted the rank of lieutenant-colonel and the Croix of Saint-Louis the 12 of the same month. He adopted the principles of the French revolution, and was promoted colonel of the 4th regiment of marines on July 1st 1792.
