François Andréossy (born with Paris the June 10th 1633, died with Castelnaudary the June 3rd 1688), Engineer Geometrician and cartographer French. Collaborator of Pierre-Paul Riquet, it made profitable his knowledge Italian channels and work of Léonard de Vinci for the design of the locks of the Canal of the South (system of the multiple locks). François Andréossy was at the same time levelling, draftsman and cartographer of the channel. He also controlled work and assisted of them Riquet until the death of this last. He worked with the service of the channel and the family Riquet all the remainder of his life, and its descendants just like continued him, during one century.
Its back grandson, the general Antoine François Andréossy in his Histoire of the Channel of the South however disputed the paternity of the project of the Channel of the South with Pierre-Paul Riquet with the profit of its grandfather.
