François-Xavier Garneau

François-Xavier Garneau (June 15th, 1809 - February 1866) was a Canadian historian. He was an autodidact and this thanks to his meeting with a teacher of the name of Joseph-François Perrault. At 16 years it enters as clerk the study of Archibal Campbell to obtain the title of notary in 1830. Its history of Canada will make of him the most influential historian of the 19th century in his country. It is deceased in the night from February 2nd to 3rd 1866 and rests today with the Cimetière Our-Lady-with-Belmont located in the Ville of Quebec.

It was influenced by the Abbé Ferland and it influenced Henri-Raymond Casgrain and Lionel Groulx.

One recognizes today François-Xavier Garneau like a notary, a large historian, but also like a poet of the XIXe century.
