The Institut François-Mitterrand is a recognized foundation public utility, created in April 1996.

Founded on the initiative of François Mitterrand (former president of the French Republic). The IFM preserves part of its private archives as well as a broad documentation on its life and its political action. Composed of an Office, a Board of directors and a Scientific advice, the IFM wishes “to contribute to the knowledge of the political and social history of contemporary France”. Beyond this statement of principle, its activity includes/understands:

  • the edition of a letter ;
  • assistance with the scientific publication;
  • the organization of conferences;
  • the participation in the events referring to François Mitterrand.

Since 2003, the François-Mitterrand Institute is chaired by Hubert Védrine.
