François-Louis Magallon , count of Morlière, was born in 1754 with Isle-Adam (current Val-d'Oise) and died in 1825 with Passy (current Sixteenth district of Paris). He was general and governor of the island of the Meeting.
François-Louis Magallon is the son of a family of the military aristocracy, his/her father was indeed marshal of the camps and armies of the King. Resulting from the district of Nogent with Isle-Adam, ground of the Princes de Conti, he is the godson of Louis-François of Bourbon-Conti, prince de Conti of 1727 with 1776. Its education is made by the Joséphites of Isle-Adam until his fourteen years, age to which it leaves, definitively, this city. It enters the army in 1769 and climbs the levels gradually of them. When the Révolution bursts, it is Capitaine.
Noticed by Notch, it is named Général and gives up his particle. It is useful in Normandy then on the Breton coasts and Normans of the young Republic. It is sent by the Comité of Public Hello on the island of France (current Mauritius) and the island Bourbon (current island of the Meeting). Its mission is, in addition to protecting the territories from the English and plundering their ships if necessary, to make apply the legislation to the Abolition of slavery in the colonies, in spite of the opposition of the white population of these islands. After having been governor of the island of France of 1800 at 1803, period during which it receives the visit of the Expédition Baudin and takes part in the scission of one starts from its members, it is governor by interim of the Bourbon island of 1803 with 1805 whereas this one is subordinated more and more to the island of France. The island becomes under its government a place of agricultural production bound for its neighbor. Under its government is introduced the smallpox vaccine into the local population, whereas slavery is restored by the Napoleonean code. It must also compose with the Franco-English war in the Indian Ocean.
In its Voyage in the four principal islands of the seas of Africa , Jean-Baptiste Bory of Saint-Vincent affirms that “ its name imposed some to the English ”, being the “ worthy son ” of a great man of war. According to the Naturalist, “ carried of all its heart for the public property, its morality promised to the colonists a support against all oppressions ”. In fact, at once that he learned the accession from Bonaparte to the capacity, he took on the colonial assembly made up at the beginning of the French revolution “ large ascending with the means of which he tranquillized everyone ”.
Of return in France, it orders same military division that his/her father had ordered and takes his retirement with Passy, where it dies in 1825. Its tomb indicates François Louis Magallon of Morlière, general lieutenant, Commandeur of the orders of the king, the Legion of Honor, the lion of Belgium, Chevalier of Saint-Louis . To Isle-Adam, a showroom bears its name.
