François-Frederic Lemot

François-Frederic Lemot , born with Lyon the November 4th 1772 and died in Paris the May 6th 1827, is a French sculptor.

Biography

He studied, with Paris, the 17 years age, under the direction of the sculptor Claude Dejoux. He gained the Prix of the royal Academy in sculpture in 1790 with a low-relief over the Judgment of Solomon , which opened the doors of the to him Villa Médicis with Rome. He had however to stop his stay, having been called in 1793 to join the Armée with the Rhine. Two years later, it has by Convention to contribute for a statue of the French people , work which was never carried out. It began with the Salon in 1801.

The Empire ordered the Quadrige to him which surmounted the Triumphal arch of the Carousel in Paris. Lemot also carried out the equestrian statue of Louis XIV , located on the Place Bellecour at Lyon.

He was elected member of the Académie of the Art schools of the Institute of France in 1809.

A street bears its name to Lyon, on the slopes of the Cross-Russet-red .
