François-Alexis Cendrier

François-Alexis Cendrier (born with Paris the February 12th 1803 and died in 1893) was a Architecte French.

Biography

Saint-Simonian, he was pupil of Leon Vaudoyer with the École of the fine arts of Paris. He was architect as a chief of the Compagnie of the railroad from Paris to Orleans in the years 1830 then architect as a chief of the Compagnie of the railroad from Paris to Lyon. He was the person in charge of construction in Paris of the Gare de Lyon, second of the name, and the station of Lyon-Perrache whose work began in April 1855 and lasted 1 year and half, he was assisted by the engineer of the Bridge-and-Roadways Adolphe Julien. (For that which rewritte articles in the course of writing: Of memory, it is Adolphe Julien, (old P.O.) then directing of work of the P.L which chose it as architect with the P.L.).

He was already the architect of the stations of Melun, Fontainebleau and Sens…, of the Gare de Lyon in Paris, the stations of Dijon, Mâcon,… He organized the standardization of the construction of the stations of Paris to Lyon.

Building-travellers of the current types

The common characteristics of the current buildings of the P.L were the following ones:

  • building-travellers on a floor and arranged roofs of

great height and with roof out of zinc N° 14 with pad and gutters,
  • very projecting

    chainings of angles out of stone and horizontal lintels,

  • stringcourse or cornice between ground floor and 1st stage, cornice between 1st stage and roofs,

  • clock or site envisaged on the two frontages, in an attic window with pediment stopping the cornice.

Building-travellers of the particular types

  • the " type; to three portes" with a stage and roofs (exceptional stations: Melun (deeply altered), Fontainebleau, Montereau, Thunder, etc)

  • the " type; to three portes" with two stages and roofs (example: Tournus, etc)
  • monumental stations (exceptional stations: Dijon, Mâcon, etc)
