General comment
-
Fight Club is a critic of the men and women of our Western company. By Tyler, they are described as being beings subjected to the appearance of the Mannequin S of the magazines and publicities, which according to the talk of film, influence the perception of their Virilité and degrade to them innate Jugement. Tyler considers that to live in a consumer society, to agree it then to become actor cannot lead to happiness. According to him, the only valid possibility would be to live originally, where one would drive out to eat, where one would live far from all these pretenses. Of course, there remains still the prospect for love, but Tyler answers quite simply: “One is a generation of men raised by women. I am not sure that another woman is the solution with our problems. ”
-
Fight Club is also a criticism of the Manipulation: one has there indeed (if the assumption is followed that only Tyler was invented by the narrator) a man, who, at him all alone, manages thanks to a speech to rejoin an incredible number people with his cause (even of the police officers adhere to it and where who the narrator goes, people greet it).
-
the fight club in itself is only the physical prolongation of the “not-virility” of its participants. Through these bloody combat, they find their desire for fighting for what they are, to take the things “with arm the body”; they relearn literally their robustness, their strength; they understand that to buy a television 16:9 gets much less adrenalin and of personal satisfaction to put an adversary at the carpet; they leave finally their zone of comfort to run up against the basic things. Little by little, these men transform themselves into what Tyler itself wishes that they change. They become again sharp, they lose their morbid desires quietly to consume and Tyler thus creates for itself a “army” of disciplined characters with simple values; people whom it names the “monkeys of space” (in reference to the monkeys used as guinea-pigs during the space conquest).
-
“Neither wolf nor sheep” could be a morals appropriate to film. In addition to the explicit denunciation of the individual-sheep, the spectator can be caused to revolt vis-a-vis these individual-wolves, the “ Space Monkeys ”, which have as little personality as the type of individual that they flee. Thus work can be perceived like humanistic, personalist, and pleasing to wonder about the doctrines all the same marginal which are the Antispécisme and the Anarchist-primitivism.
-
Tyler mistakes the worship of appearance as well as the futile human concerns. This part of film is leaning in a way picturesque on the Machisme and even on the Fascisme.
-
Fight Club is ironic in the direction where the film criticizes the system in which it was produced and from which it draws its codes. It is with the second degree that it is certainly necessary to perceive Fight Club ; not as the real criticism which he claims to make, but as a joke (Fincher qualified itself its film of joke, without forgetting on the other hand that the film is drawn from the original book of Chuck Palahniuk). The last image of the film (a penis in subliminal Image) is the perfect illustration, even if the film is more ambiguous than the book on this concept of first/second degree, with in particular the outcome “Hollywood IEN” of film (fine happy, presence of a romantic history, etc), contrary to that of the novel. Moreover this irony and this second degree presented previously are in the schizophrenia of the character who becomes victim of itself. As the speeches anticapitalists which depend on the existence even of capitalism, the character become victim of his refusal of reality within reality, such as it arises: abrupt.
-
Certains American teenagers did not see film under this angle, and of information were filtered concerning “free” aggressions people awaiting the bus in a street of a city of the Nevada, to make as in film, become worship at those. One thus notes the same influence for this film, as Clockwork orange , in his time, with the the United Kingdom, film to which Fight Club refers by the composition of certain plans (the aggression of notable in the toilets of the hotel).
-
Before even the beginning of film, when the DVD is launched, one is entitled to usual “the work fixed on this support is subjected to copyright… ”, and a few moments after this message, another text of the same kind appears, but this time, it is signed Tyler Durden.
Stop excessive shopping and the masturbation. Leave your work start to beat you. Prouvez that you are in life. If you do not assert your humanity you will become statistics. You will have been warned… Tyler." '
-
Fight Club preaches the self-destruction and the abandonment of hope (but not the suicide). Tyler explains why only a sudden anarchy, and the destruction of the existing lifestyle could save us. He explains why the life is not used for nothing and that the paradise really does not exist: if a person dies, after having had a mean length of life, it will go to the paradise. But on Earth, it will not leave any trace. Tyler thus recommends that if one must die, as much to mark the History, and to choose the Hell. “There are all the capacity to change the world. ”

Publicities
The film, as mentioned above, contains an apparent paradox: its contents act like a firm Opposition to publicity and like an anthem to the revolt vis-a-vis consumption, whereas the images of film themselves are faggots of publicity. Each one will draw its own conclusions from them: to show for démont (R) er, irony, duplicity, inspiration situationnist…However good number of these appearances is associated with acts of violence or with destruction, even with the criticism which the narrator of its own lifestyle makes.
