A Frameserver is a Logiciel which transmits a video stream to another program (the " Frameclient"). That avoids in particular the writing of temporary files on the disc and makes it possible to exceed the limiting sizes of input files of certain software (typically 2Go). Moreover, the frameserver producing a flow of video not compressed, compatibility with frameclient is increased. One can thus make use of the frameserver like tool to raise an incompatibility with a software, provided that this last can be used as frameclient. The video stream passes via a pseudo-file in which the written frameserver and since which frameclient bed.

Certain software offers at the same time the functionalities of frameclient and frameserver. For example, VirtualDub can be used as frameclient. It can be also used as frameserver to transmit the video stream to Windows Media Encoder which will play him to it role of frameclient.

The majority of the coders can serve as frameclient.
