Frameries is a common French-speaking of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.
The most probable assumption of the origin of the word Frameries would come from “Frameric”, of the name of a former owner of one of the three fields at the origin of the village (with Fleignies, possession of Flago and Lambrechies de Landaberth or Lambert).
About the year 1000, in the town of Saint-Ghislain, one finds the first mention of Frameries.
In 1182, a bubble of the Pope Lucius III, mentioning the donation of the church of the borough in the chapter of Saint-Waudru by Aubert II, Bishop of Cambric (deceased in 965), reveals the existence of the village for the first time.
Frameries had a not very complicated history.
Among the dependences of Frameries, it is advisable to quote the three farms:
They date according to 1142, year or Baudouin IV count de Hainaut, conceded on Frameries, hundred bonniers of ground to the Templiers. The Order of Malta which replaced them, had the grounds of the Temple and Flégnies.
An act of 1274 quotes the coal-scuttles of Frameries. The chapter of Holy-Waudru, with Mons, had the collation of the cure and many properties. The sovereign, the chapter and the order of the Temple had seigniories there. The seigniory of this village belonged in 1300 to Baudry of Rochefort. In 1312, when this military order celebrate was removed, these goods and others, acquired later, passed to the Chevaliers of Midsummer's Day called later of Rhodos, then of Malta. The dependence, created in 1142 per Baudouin IV, become that of the Chevaliers of the Temple passes to the hands Chevaliers of Malta (the Farm of the Temple and the Pilori are vestiges).
Frameries depended on the stronghold of Line. There was an oath of Archers of SaintSébastien, to which the large baillif de Hainaut granted statutes, in 1576.
Of 1945 to our days
With the beginning of the year 1950: Counting on the profitability of wells 11 and 12 of the coal mining of Crachet, an investment of 500 million BEF allows the realization of a well great section with equipment out of cages, serrated roller frame, winding engines, ventilation, laundrette, public baths, offices and a tunnel dug under Frameries making it possible to bring back the coals extracted the " Grisoeuil " and of the " Large Feature " towards the new laundrette. The coal reserve of this complex of 3 wells is estimated at 154 million tons what to ensure an extraction day laborer of 1.700 tons during 300 years!
In 1960, in spite of the large hardly finished investments of the " Crachet " , well 11 is closed the July 16th 1960 and well 12 on December 28th 1960. The buildings in very good state had been the subject of a classification.
Since the middle of the years 1980, Frameries also fell under a diagram of urban renovation and socio-economic development.

In 1993: It is by an overpowering report: the distance between the scientific world and the citizens ceases only increasing, within the Ministry for the Walloon region, Mrs. Straus, Managing director of the DGTRE, and Mrs. Guilleaume, dream to bring closer sciences and population by a project to width. By a fortuitous meeting, the site of Crachet pertaining to inter-commune is placed at the disposal of the Walloon region to establish to with it a true place of adventures of 40 hectares. close to a spoil heap!
In June 1994: Arrive the European assistances, via the program " Objective 1 ". A file returned, a first step is made. The importance to be established in this area jumps to the eyes, as well on the social point as geographical. This corner of Wallonia which seems sometimes enliser indeed appears to need an engine of development in the medium and long term.
Questioned, the population of coal-mining wants unanimously to turn to the future, " to give of the color in a black Country " ! The decision makers give their support, a scenario is established. Afterwards many adventures, very engages, work start. A call for candidate at the European level and the project of the French architect Jean Nouvel is selected. In parallel, the population is sensitized with the project. In a van called " Pass-Partout " , of the organizers go in the schools of the area, proposing a scientific animation on the food. Via the Senior citizens' university, groups of seniors can be initiated with data processing in a room completely equipped.
In 1998, the need for this scientific Park is increasingly obvious. Indeed, an international study carried out in 41 countries locates Belgium in 36ème position in the teaching of sciences at the level of primary education and the secondary. One notes in our young people a lack of acquisition of the scientific step… And all that involves less and less many inscriptions in the higher and university scientific schools.
The May 5th 2000: The dream becomes reality: the Park of Scientific Adventures (Not) opens officially its doors. The " term; Aventures" is not randomly selected. The goal is not to carry out scientific observatories reserved for an elite, but to show in a ludic and didactic way well that science is everywhere in our life.
In 2006: The Step is badly. The employees of the step are afraid for their employment and the inhabitants of the area fear to lose their scientific tool. An open letter is even accessible “open” where everyone can sign. The March 12th 2006 the employees one organized one day of sensitizing where the entries were free, between 5000 and 6000 people came to support them.
The total costs of creation rise to 800 franc million, including 500 million for architecture. To that is added the 150 million the Funds of a company European, intended for the training of young people without use of all levels.
Each exposure makes work particularly specialized people: scenographers, museologists, graphic designers… The old coal mining of the " Crachet " is thus emphasized:
In the attic of the stories, one can revive the recent past of people of the corner, to discover the geography of coal, the large energy dies… By the elevator of the serrated roller frame, one can rise with 60 meters of altitude and discover a landscape marked by the history, the geography with open sky… By the engine room, sciences open to the visitors: physology, medicine, biology, but also materials, matter… all that thanks to interactive exposures, truly put in scene.
