History
July 3rd 1194, Fréteval was the theater of a battle where Richard Lion-hearted, after having beaten Philippe Auguste, destroyed the files which the king of France had given up in his escape. Guillaume Breton the, historiographer of the king, reports that Philippe Auguste would have thus lost the " booklets of account of the fisc". This loss decided Philippe Auguste with sédentariser the files, by gathering the most important documents in Paris, which marks traditionally the creation of the Public records.
