Fox Hound

Fox Hound is a unit of the Special forces American army present in the series of video games Metal GEAR. Specialized in the clandestine operations of infiltration, Fox Hound intervenes in the most significant situations where the political situation does not allow a conventional intervention. This unit of high-tech to the characteristic to recruit among mercenaries, or to recruit particularly gifted young people for the combat, locates by Big Boss himself (Frank Jaeger, solid Snake, sniper Wolf…).

The members of Fox Hound are soldiers of exception having reached an extreme control in their speciality (sniper, heavy weapons, etc), even unusual (Télékinésie, etc.). According to the situation, each member is able to only act or as team. They are teams of radar soliton and coded radio (codec). Unit FOX (1964-1970)

Basing itself on its experiment in SAS, it is during the Cold war that the Major Tom suggests the creation of unit FOX (for Force Operation X): a unit mixing Special forces and spies.

Supported by The Boss, unit FOX is born within the CIA in 1964 and carries out the operations Virtuous Mission , followed just afterwards by Snake Eater , which were respectively a failure then a success (cf Metal GEAR Solid 3: Snake Eater ).

The unit is dissolved in 1970 by the Major Zero. It is replaced by Fox Hound in 1971 after the unit rebelled against the government of the USA little time after the resignation of Naked Snake.

Big Boss (1971-1995)

Big Boss earlier creates Fox Hound in 1971 after the dissolution of unit FOX one year. The first members of foxhound are Soviet soldiers given up by their government in Colombia. Big boss makes use of it to help it in its infiltration of military base.

The unit will lead several operations for the US government before the incident of Outer Heaven in 1995, also known like the operation Intrude N313 (cf Metal GEAR ).

The order is given to Fox Hound to infiltrate the base strengthened of Outer Heaven in order to destroy Metal GEAR and to help its creator Doctor Drago Pettrovich Madnar. Big Boss betrays his unit and captures Gray Fox. Solid Snake, then young recruit, are sent in order to release Gray Fox and Madnar. It that point reaches and leaves Big Boss for death. Some time after, Solid Snake leaves Fox Hound.

Colonel Campbell (1995-2000)

After the death of Big Boss, Campbell will take the command of Fox Hound and will direct the unit towards state-of-the-art technologies.

At the time of the incident of Zanzibar (an imaginary country without relationship with the archipelago of Zanzibar) so known on the name of operation " Intrude F014" , Campbell recalls Solid Snake to the active service. He asks him to help Doctor Marv and to destroy the stock of nuclear weapons of Zanzibar. During the mission, Snake discovers that Big Boss survived, that it directs Zanzibar and that it built a new Metal GEAR. Snake does not succeed in helping Marv but keep silent Big Boss and destroyed Metal GEAR. Again, Snake decides to leave Fox Hound. Campbell will make in the same way some time afterwards.

Liquid Snake (2000-2005)

Liquid Snake takes the command of Fox Hound. At this period, each member of Fox Hound is identified by a code name comprising a name of animal ( Vulcan Raven , Gray Fox , etc) in connection with his faculties.

In 2005, under the command of Liquid Snake, the unit Fox Hound takes the control of the site of dismantling of nuclear weapons of Shadow Moses in Alaska and threat to carry out its hostages as long as one does not give the skin of Big Boss to him. Colonel Campbell and Solid Snake are reminded the active service in order to answer this threat. During the mission, Snake learns that the site of Shadow Moses is used as cover with the development and the test of the last prototype of Metal GEAR, Rex. It becomes acquainted with the creator of Rex, Otacon as well as Meryl Silverburgh, the niece of Campbell. With their assistance, Solid Snake succeeds in eliminating the members from Fox Hound and destroying Rex. (cf Metal GEAR Solid ) Liquid dies of the Fox-die at the time to cut down Snake.
