Fourth austro-Turkish war

Russia opens the hostility by taking Azow in 1736. Azow belonged to the Khanat of the Crimea, vassal of the Door. This offensive is thus regarded as a casus belli on behalf of the Door.

The Austrians ordered by François-Etienne of Lorraine, assisted of the general Seckendorf, launch the offensive in Macedonia and seize Nis.

Peace was negotiated thanks to the mediation of the Marquis de Villeneuve. The September 18th 1739 is signed the Traité of Belgrade between the Ottoman Empire and the Austria by which Austria yields the Western Valachie, the north of the Serbia and Belgrade.
