Fourmilion (Half-Life)

The Fourmilions ( Antlion in original version) are enemies of the Série of video game Half-Life . In fact dangerous creatures insectoïdes of Xen appear on Ground after the storm of gate. If them Fourmilions has a preference for the movable grounds like the Sable, they do not have differently than few common points with truths Fourmilions and chose the direct attack rather than to trap the prey passively by traps.

Environment

The ant-lions (of all types) live completely or partly, in Grottes (which they dig they even with acid jets, obviously) deeply inks under ground. The walls of these caves are the places of life of their larvae, which produce a similar fabric has that of the spiders, forming around these walls, generally a thick white layer contrasting with the typical environment of these caves. Fabrics of this fabric are also formed to block the passage of the intruders in these endrois (narrower than the junctions of these galleries, also), although a simple blow of crowbar or a quelquonque weapon is enough to tear it. This zone is the places of life of all the representatives of this race, each one in a typical place. The traditional ant-lions disperse nimporte or, dealing with supervising their larvae when the player is not in the sector. The acid ant-lions dig the galleries with their secretion, and take care like their working sisters, to eliminate the intruders (or to make them flee). The Guards supervise the important places, always in zones suffisement large to enable them to charge a target without touching the walls, the guards being very bulky. And one (or several if this zone is larger than what could be visited) decides between other guards, the Guard of Nectarium Sacré, it does not have any physical difference compared to his counterparts has leave a green gleam on some his members and undoubtedly an increased resistance. It is also it should be noted that the caves are directly dependant has mines closed down, has old infrastructures and several elevator makes it possible to flee this endrois has time.

Various types

Workers Swarmed

Fourmilions lives in underground colonies located typically in the sandy zones like the beaches. They are terrent in sand, watching for the vibrations of the ground indicating the presence of one victim to surface. If one of their swarm is disturbed, the victim can take refuge temporarily in water since them Fourmilions cannot swim and can quickly drown when they comes into contact with it. A shooting of gun with gravity can also make it possible to reverse Fourmilion on the back offering a short deferment to escape. Fourmilions is able to fly on short distances. Their aggressions are not limited only to human but also to the Trust. They can also attack the xenofaune like crabs of head.

The Trust uses different names to indicate to them Fourmilions. When Gordon Freeman attacks Nova Prospekt, shouldered by Fourmilions, a soldier can be intended to mention “” in the building. In their attempts to push back the creatures, another soldier called to the radio “”

Fourmilions reacts according to the vibrations of the air and the ground and has a fear of water, a behavior similar to that of the Vers of sand in the universe of Dune . However, whereas the marteleurs attract the Worms in Dune , the vibrations produced in the ground by those are used to push back to them Fourmilions, probably because that causes a sensory overload to them or that the perception of the strong deaf vibrations of the marteleurs their is painful from their extrème sensitivity to the vibrations.

Fourmilions is the only enemies of Half-Life 2 whose body is exploded of small pieces (Gibs) rather than to follow the Physique ragdoll if they are killed by a powerful weapon (except for the zombis which can be puffed up by the explosion or half-compartments into two, and sometimes some large synths).

Guards Swarmed

Much larger and more forts, the Guards Swarmed ( Myrmidont giganticus ) order and control to them Fourmilions. Their principal attack is to charge the target with their head or simply to give a blow of head if the target is with range. Any object in the field of view of Myrmidont is projected on the enemies.

Freeman meets Myrmidont during its way along the coast. After having overcome it, Vortigaunt extracts the phéropodes from the body of the creature. The phéropodes contain in fact the Phéromone S of the creature which make it possible Freeman to be identified as Myrmidont by the others Fourmilions. In addition to immunizing against their attacks, the phéropodes make it possible Freeman to control to them Fourmilions. Thrown at a place, the phéropode bursts and releases its phéromones which attracts to them Fourmilions neighborhood. It is by this stratagem that Freeman takes assault Nova Prospekt by submerging the attacked guards on any side by Fourmilions. To note that the phéropodes never become exhausted, one does not know by which means the launched phéropodes are replaced. The model viewer reveals an unused animation showing that Myrmidont launches its phéropodes by using its small former claws.

It is as curious as them Fourmilions is absent each time Guarde Fourmilion is present.

An image of the official site D ''' Episode One '' of a Fourmilion Guard is captioned as being “Ant Lion Queen” (Fourmilion Queen), in spite of the fact that this Guard does not have any visible difference with the others. Although this can be an simple error, that could as mean as this particular specimen is a female of the species, or that all the Guards Swarm are females. It is interesting to note that there exists an alternative texture with the Fourmilion Guard in the file “gcf” of Episode One giving to the creature a blue skin.

Larvae Swarmed

The larval form of Fourmilions was initially to be present in a beta release of Half-Life 2 but was not retained for the final version. They appear finally in Episode Two, and live in the cellars among the other ant-lions. They are especially against the walls of these caves, but it would seem that they are formed in large cells. It can also cure the people who crush them (voluntarily or not) or kill them, by releasing a small fluorescent ball (it is it which makes it possible the larvae to light the walls of their environment). When that one of these larvae is killed, the ant-lions neighborhood can detect it. It is thus necessary to choose between care, and safety.

Acid Fourmilion

Also called " AcidLion" by the Vortigaunt, the acid Ant-lions resemble more has true ants that the others, even if they guards same the shéma concerning the site of their legs. They can like their sisters fly on short distances, but especially they have the capacity to produce a Acide which makes it possible to dig the galleries or they live (like their larvae), and also to wound and poison the intruders.

King Fourmilion

Alleged “Antlion King” (King Fourmilion) appears in some previews . According to the official guide Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar , Gordon was supposed to fight under-ground against one of them which would have acted as boss. However, as the levels on the surface took a place increasingly important and that the underpasses narrowed, it was decided to remove King Fourmilion of the play.

Reproduction

The mode of reproduction of Fourmilions is unknown but it is possible that they follow the same diagram as that of the social insects like the Abeille S and the Fourmi S. Swarm Them work together and the presence of Guards Swarm indicate that there exists the shape of caste on their premises (another possibility would be an extreme form of sexual Dimorphisme). It should be noted that resistant indicates that them Fourmilions have “” (where they are even more aggressive). Gordon Freeman meets one type of Fourmilion during all its way on Autoroute 17. Those can nevertheless have different ornaments, some appear yellower, others have black and red marks on the top of the wings. The utility of such a distinction at these supposedly blind creatures is unknown but could be a code of the Sexe.

Anti-Fourmilion defense

Along the littoral, machines of the Trust called “”, called “” by the resistant ones, make it possible to guarantee certain zones of the presence of Swarmed. While hammering the ground permanently with a metal beam, the vibrations produced in the ground move away to them Fourmilions which are very sensitive there. Restrictor valves with large scales appear around the perimeter of Nova Prospekt.

The infestation of the beaches by Fourmilions encouraged the Trust installed Restrictor valves to fight the threat. In Quoted 17, Restrictor valves are installed on the sides of the Citadel and functions constantly. Fourmilions thus seems to have invaded most of the grounds. At the end of Half-Life 2 , the destruction of the engine with black energy stopped the majority of the functions of the Citadel, stopping the only defense of the city against the invasion of Fourmilions. A little later in Episode One , Cité 17 starts to be overflowed.

It is as revealed as it is possible to block the galleries of Fourmilions with the broad ones and heavy objects like cars. Once blocked, them Fourmilions cannot emerge any more on the surface. Deaf beats indicate whereas the blocked insects strike in a way repeated under the barricade of fortune. The only manner for them of circumventing the barrier is that a Fourmilion Guard charges the barricade.
