The fourmiliers are mammals xenarthra represented by the four species of the sub-order of the known Vermilingua for their myrmécophagie and them termitophagie. The fourmiliers form with the Paresseux the order Pilosa .
It is the giant or large fourmilier to tamanoir ( Myrmecophaga tridactyla ), being approximately 1,8 m long (with the tail); tamanduas or tamandous ( Tamandua tetradactyla , T. mexicana ), measuring 90 cm in length; and the myrmidon, small 35 cm length arboricolous fourmilier ( Cyclops didactylus ).
He is distributed in an extensive way in power station and South America, attending low wet savannas, along the banks, and in the depth of the wet forests, but nowhere abundant.
The two fourmiliers of the kind Tamandua, Tamandua of the South ( Tamandua tetradactyla ) and the tamandua of Mexico ( Tamandua mexicana ), are smaller than the giant fourmilier, and differ primarily from this one, owing to the fact that they are mainly arboricolous. They are present in the dense primary forests of South America and power station. They are generally white-yellowish, with a broad edge line, covering almost all the side of the body.
The myrmidon ( Cyclops didactylus ) is originating in the hottest areas of tropical America. Size of a rat, it is exclusively arboricolous.
