The Four Wang were four painters Chinese of the end of the XVIe and the beginning of the XVIIe century (fine of the Dynastie Ming and beginning of the dynasty Qing) dividing same the Patronyme, Wang. It is about Wang Shimin, Wang Yuanqi, Wang Hui and Wang Jian. Even if many other Chinese painters portainet this name, the Four Wang lived at the same time, knew each other and had very close styles. Wang Shimin was the grandfather of Wang Yuanqi and belonged to the same clan as Wang Jian, which presented Wang Hui to him, of which he was the professor.
They belong to the orthodoxe school of the landscape, which prefers the painting of landscapes while taking as a starting point works of last painters recognized rather than according to nature.
Among the artists having exerted an influence on them, one finds in particular Huang Gongwang and Wang Meng.
