Four-season Television or TQS is the second television network deprived with the Quebec. Property of the group Cogeco (important Canadian cablodistributor) and of CTVglobemedia (owner of the Canadian television network CTV), TQS was launched in 1986 under the name of Four-season Télévision. Its first mission was to offer programming which would be the same one throughout the year (without emissions, drama series or magazines not being stopped for the summer season), from where the name " Four Saisons".
TQS also innovated by presenting the first erotic variety to Quebec (On the pillow animated by France Manor house), of erotic films saturdays at the end of the evening (always to the antenna in the box of cinema " Bleu Harms "), matches of hockey of the Scandinavian of Quebec like several films daily.
With the beginning of the year 2000, an purchase offer is deposited by Rogers Communications of Toronto to acquire of Vidéotron, owner of the first cable network in Quebec and television network VAT. This transaction makes strongly react the political circle which feared that Quebec loses controls it on the only telecommunication network of Québécois property. The Government of Quebec, with the assistance of the Case of deposit and placement of Quebec (agent of the pension funds of the employees of the State), finance Quebecor so that it becomes purchaser of Vidéotron and of the Réseau VAT. The new company, Quebecor Media, is now the most important company of communications in Quebec.
CRTC however refused that VAT and TQS are controlled consequently undertaken. Quebecor had to be solved to sell TQS which was repurchased by Cogeco (which was the owner of some of the regional stations of TQS since 1987) and Beautiful Globemedia.
However, the most important turn taken by the leaders of Cogeco was one by one to convert the tv news into emissions of debates and opinions having one duration of more than one hour each one.
Rather than to be presented by a Journalist (in the noblest direction of the term), the various tv news is presented by popular organizers such as Jean-Luc Mongrain, Denis Lévesque, Gilles Proulx or Benoit Dutrizac, of former politicians like Michel Gauthier. It even arrived regularly at winter 2005 that debates of end of evening of TQS obtained market shares higher than the Téléjournal/the Point of Radio-Canada, considered as an institution in the field of information in Quebec.
Later, TQS put on Isabelle Maréchal which is journalist, stimulating and actress. In addition to commenting on the news of the newspaper of end of evening of TQS, it animated the second season of the Québécois telereality Loft Story . Its arrival with TQS in August 2005 involved the departure of the chief of antenna Denis Lévesque for LCN one week before the great re-entry of TQS. Denis did not want to make of “information spectacle” with Isabelle Maréchal. He was replaced by the journalist Martin Robert. In February 2006, the direction of TQS carried out a change with the newspaper of end of evening, since the dimensions of listening were not with the height of waitings. Isabelle leaves the first part of the newspaper and becomes the stimulating one of the second part of the emission: the debate. In May 2006, TQS puts an end to its contract.
In June 2006, TQS announces that it is Benoît Dutrizac who will occupy the time box of 22:00 as of the autumn and whom it returns Martin Robert to the post of head of antenna of the bulletins of news of the end of the week, posts that it occupied before his nomination.
The concept of the Dutrizac emission diffused with 22:00 with the autumn 2006 was to receive guests who make the topicality and to ask them frank and direct questions during 45 minutes, follow-up of a block of 15 minutes news to 22:45. Unfortunately, the concept of the emission did not attract the public, which is accustomed to see news with 22:00. In November, TQS alters the emission by adding a block of news animated by Martin Robert to the beginning of the emission for then presenting the interviews of Dutrizac.
Jean Pagé animates each evening with 23:00, 110% , emission discusses on the sport. The more traditional presentation of the news (presentation of a report, follow-up of the report of the journalist) left the place to more and more Débat S with guests on subjects shocks as well as telephone platforms. No matter what disputed by purists of the Journalism, this turn made it possible TQS to finally reach profitability and to see its market shares increasing significantly. TQS presents even spectacles of several Canadian and international artists, like The Confessions Tower of Madonna.
