is an independent public institution Japanese intended to improve the international cultural exchanges with Japan.

Founded in 1972 like legal special entity, it became an independent public corporation on October 1st, 2003. Activities of the Foundation, whose seat is with Tokyo are divided into three branches:

  • the promotion of arts and the culture of Japan,
  • the Japanese language,
  • Japanese studies and exchanges intellectual.

The Foundation of Japan also has 19 offices in 18 countries, including 5 in Europe: Cologne, London, Rome, Budapest and Paris where it ensures the good performance and the management of the Maison of the culture from Japan Paris.
