The Fondation for the Memory of the Shoah is a recognized French institution of public utility whose vocation is to support projects having milked with:
history and research on Shoah (purses, assistance with research…)
The Foundation is chaired by David de Rothschild, Simone Veil is the president of honor and Serge Klarsfeld the vice-president.
She gives a permanent support for the Mémorial of Shoah to Paris.
The Foundation for the Memory of Shoah was created in 2000, on the recommendations of the Mission of study on the spoliation of the Jews of France, or mission Mattéoli, was charged, in 1995, with inventorying and to evaluate the funds despoiled with the Jews during the Second world war which were unduly preserved by the administrations of the State and the financial institutions French. The restitution of these funds constituted the equipment of the Foundation.
The major part of the budget of the Foundation is allotted to the financing of many projects which are examined by five commissions made up sets of themes voluntary members: History and research, Teaching of Shoah, Memory and transmission, Solidarity and Jewish Culture. The recommendations of the commissions are then subjected to the office, then with the board of directors of the Foundation. Ministerial representatives sit at the council at the sides of delegated Jewish institutions and qualified personalities. The financial commission takes care as for it of the safeguarding of the value of the equipment and the good use of its incomes.
