Foundation Nelson Mandela

The Fondation Nelson Mandela is a Governmental organization created in 1999 in South Africa “to meet an increasing and urgent need to bring to Nelson Mandela, just withdrawn from the presidency, the support necessary to enable him to continue the work undertaken with the head of the country. Starting from this logistic objective, the foundation evolved/moved into practice to put its ideals and its values. ”

The foundation being dedicated to make perdurer the vision of Mandela, it is difficult to summarize all the objectives and the means which it develops. It is however clear that in the broad outlines, all its members have in heart to improve the living conditions of the most disadvantaged populations, in South Africa and more largely in the world, fields as varied as poverty, freedom, the disease or oppression. Concretely, this organization continues the two main aims which are the fight against the epidemic of the AIDS and the improvement of education in the rural regions.

Introduction in connection with the foundation

Since the year the 2002 Foundation Nelson Mandela wishes to play a leading role in South Africa in the two stakes which are the fight against the epidemic of the AIDS and the improvement of the living conditions of the children of the rural regions. Promising beginnings made it possible the foundation to be made a name and, consequently, to weigh in a durable way in decision makings. For example, the commission of research on the HIV could be made hear authorities and to have an significant impact on the policy of South Africa as regards social development.

To achieve its goals, the foundation chose to work much in collaboration with the traditional local leaders. The foundation Nelson Mandela wishes to promote the values which guided the work and all the life of Nelson Mandela. By creating strategic alliances the foundation redistributes its resources and its knowledge with local initiatives to bring solutions and new possibilities. The foundation is attached to allow the development of the spirit of reconciliation, the '' ubuntu '' and the statutory values. Its work is a homage to the life of Nelson Mandela which always has work in this sens.
It is in this spirit that Will Smith declared at the time of the second concert organized by the foundation: “I made films and musics, and I have the feeling that it is not sufficient. I want to fight and fight for the account of Nelson Mandela. ”

the objectives

The Foundation Nelson Mandela is an organization enracinée in Africa and has total impacts by propagating the values of the spirit of its founder. Through an approach which associates theoretical and practical knowledge, this foundation encourages the local initiatives which works to allow a development of the statutory values, morals and human.

Programs

The fight against VIH/Sida

To fight against the pandemia of the AIDS in South Africa, the countryside integrates three shutters which consist to reconcile, include/understand and make evolve/move the things (through various demonstrations in particular).

To reconcile to create conditions of dialog;
To include/understand, through the dialog, to improve knowledge on pandemia;
To influence the political decisions and to contribute to the awakening of the state pandemia.

The promotion of the dialog

Education

To promote education in rural environments is a major stake of the foundation. This stake is all the more important as poverty in the rural regions impacts the life of the children directly, particularly their education. Badly educated, these children will be handicapped adults, it is a vicious circle. To try to leave this tendency, the foundation Nelson Mandela established for the rural schools a national campaign which comprises three shutters:

Of the thorough studies
the development of a pilot project based with Eastern Wraps, one of the poorest provinces of South Africa. The purpose of this project is to make it possible the rural schools to reach excellence. The underprivileged pupils who succeed are as many factors which encourage the practice of the schooling of the children in the poor mediums.

The foundation attentively looks at the results of the present campaign which must make integrate into the pupils of the civic values such as the reconciliation, peace, justice and the service at the community. The results of the national campaign for the rural schools will be evaluated with the following criteria:

decisions taken within the schools on the infrastructures necessary (classes of course, meeting rooms, toilets, rooms or offices specific) and the way of obtaining them with the local resources;
decisions taken within the schools on the equipment necessary and the capacity to obtain them, by obtaining funds by their own means or by requesting the Foundation.

The project of the " center mémoire"

The raison d'être of the center of the memory is to recall the history of a long way towards freedom in South Africa. “freedom is not something which one receives, one must acquire it” declares Mandela. The purpose of this center is to show how to acquire its freedom by proposing documentation, campaigns of information and mobilization on the fights last and present for freedom.
The center of the memory drew up a list of its means and its main aims:

To integrate the virtual one (by using data-processing technology) into the material files;

To be a site of excellence by the quality and the quantity of the files;

To create a collaboration between all those which are interested in these files;

To create a resource dedicated to share and diffuse the ideas and the values of Nelson Mandela;

To create a site which will integrate:

what is material with what is virtual;

of the files on the written, audio and video supports;

technological resources and traditional archival mediums;

history of the fights for freedom, filed and told of sharp voice.

The center of the memory saw the day the September 21st 2004. At the time of the opening ceremony, Nelson Mandela received on behalf of a former guard two of the books which he had written with the prison Robben Island and which had been lost. For this inauguration the first exposure, " 466/64: A prisoner who works in a jardin" (" 466/64: In Prisoner Working in the Garden") relating to the imprisonment of Mandela, was open. This first work of collaboration between the African Mandela foundation and Southern public records was the success near the public and of the media.
