The Protestant church

The village is dominated by its Protestant church which has a splendid Romance bell-tower dating from second half of XIIe century or the beginning of XIIIe century. This bell-tower is an element of the old church, formerly catholic and dedicated to Jean-Baptiste saint. The nave of the building goes back to the XVIIIe century (one can read the date of 1776, on the western gate). This building is the point of result of the architectural model of the churches of the Round of applause of the Rock, introduced by the predecessor of Pasteur Oberlin to Waldersbach, Jean-Georges Stuber.

The old chorus of the church, arched warheads, presents a whole of frescos of XIVe, XVe and XVIe centuries. One can also see in this chorus, inserted in the wall is, a eucharistic cupboard of XVe century, Gothic style blazing, with the weapons of the family of Rathsamhausen zum Stein, lords of the Round of applause of the Rock at that time.

Personalities related to the commune

One can admire in Fouday fall it from Pasteur Jean-Frederic Oberlin (1740-1826) who was Pasteur with the Round of applause of the Rock (the seigniory of which the village formed part formerly) of 1767 with his death.

The village of Fouday is also marked by the memory of Daniel Legrand , industrial philanthropist, friend of Oberlin, author of the first law on the Travail of the children. The factory of silk ribbons which it installs in Fouday knows a great fame. A plate in its honor is affixed on the house where he lived until his death.
