Fouage of Provence
In France under the Old Mode, the fouage is provincial tax.
It is a real size perceived on fires. The fire is a tax unit of 50.000 books, determined by the land register: only the land one is correctly estimated, furniture under is strongly evaluated. With the XVIII° century there were 3000 fires.
