Fouad Siniora (also retranscribed by Fuad Siniora, Fouad Seniora ) (1943, Sidon) (Arab: فؤادالسنيوره) is a politician Lebanon board. It is current the Prime Minister for the Lebanon.
It was born in a family sunnite from Sidon in 1943. Siniora was a friend of childhood of the Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri assassinated in 2005. Graduate in economy of the American University of Beirut (AUB). After having worked there as professor like in the banking environment (Citibank) in the Seventies, Siniora is found with the head of the committee of audit of the central bank of Lebanon. In 1982, it joined the commercial empire into full expansion with Rafiq Hariri and becomes important directing group.
Siniora was a friend and an adviser of fire Rafiq Hariri and it is today close to the son of this last, Saad Hariri. He is minister of state with the financial businesses between 1992 and 1998 then Minister for Finance between 2000 and 2004. It is the principal craftsman of the Conférence of Paris II in November 2002 held under the auspices of Jacques Chirac and which made it possible the Lebanon to receive 2,6 billion dollars of loans. In 1998, he is accused of corruption and of destruction of documents in one of what is largely regarded as a conflict between the president Emile Lahoud lately elected and the mentor of Siniora, Rafiq Hariri. After the victory of Hariri in 2000 and its return to the capacity, Siniora becomes again minister and is cleared charges launched against him. In 2002, Siniora introduces a major tax reform by reducing the customs taxes and by replacing them by a VAT of 10%. It is at the time of its passage to the ministry for Finances that the national debt of Lebanon explodes.
Following the “Revolution of the cedar” and with the victory of the opposition to the elections from May-June 2005, Fouad Siniora is charged by the Parliament with forming a new government on June 30th, 2005. He resigns then of his post of chairman of the group the Mediterranean (a banking holding controlled by the Hariri family). After hard negotiations with president Lahoud, Fouad Siniora manages to form a government the July 19th 2005. It is the first government formed after the withdrawal of the Syrian soldiers and the first which includes/understands members of the Hezbollah. Except for block of the general Michel Aoun, the majority of the political currents are represented (list of the ministers).
Fouad Siniora is regarded as a man favorable to the market. It is a partisan of the economic Libéralisme. Siniora is married in Houda Bsat and it has 3 children.
November 1st, 2006, the United States shows Iran and Syria to carry out a plot against Sinora with an aim of destabilizing Lebanon.
Ten days later, the 6 prosyrian Ministers for the government, representative Emile Lahoud, the Hezbollah and Amal, resign. Since, the country is plunged in a great constitutional crisis, the prosyrian parties denouncing the not-constitutionality of the government whereas the Alliance of March 14th insists to recognize its legitimacy. This crisis is registered the negociations parallel to on the creation of an International court on the series of attacks and assassinations which have occurred since October 1st, 2004.
Following nonthe election by the Lebanese Parliament of a successor with Emile Lahoud with the presidency of the republic, the presidential capacities were transferred by interim to the Council of Ministers chaired by Siniora, in accordance with the Constitution. However, the Opposition continues to dispute the legitimacy of the government Siniora and of this fact refuses to recognize its temporary présdentiel role.
