The Expédition of Wolseley was a military movement authorized in 1870 by Canadian the Prime Minister John A. Macdonald to confront Louis Riel and the Métis in the Red colony of Rivière, in the current Canadian province of Manitoba.

It consists of 2200 men resulting from the militia of High-Canada and the British regular forces.

Ordered by the English colonel Garnet Wolseley, forwarding was started of Toronto. She travelled through the Baie Georgienne, of which she crossed the Lake Huron and the Higher Lac in boat to arrive at Thunder Bay (Ontario). From here, the soldiers carried some small boats to the lake Shebandowan, then they went to Fort Frances (Ontario), and finally arrived at the Fort Garry the August 24th 1870. Louis Riel decides to flee before their arrival.
