The Expédition of Ireland of 1796 is an attempt fallen through at invasion of Ireland during the revolutionary wars.
Theobald Wolfe Thunders, the chief of the United Irish , in conflict with England, comes to France to require military support. Answering his waitings, the general Lazare Hoche proposes a project of descent in Ireland: an important forwarding must unload in 1796 a French Army on the coasts of the Ireland. The December 15th 1796 an army of forty-five ships transporting thirteen thousand four hundred men leaves Brest.
Justin Bonaventure Morard of Wales directs first of divisions in charge of an unloading in Ireland. Eustace Bruix is head of division associated with the admiral Justin Bonaventure Morard of Wales. But this last is separated from the remainder of the fleet by the fog and arrives at Bantry after the departure of the other ships. It does not unload the troops of Lazare Hoche and returns to Brest, which is worth to him to be disgrâcié.
