Forum of the people

The forum of the people is an annual demonstration organized since 2002 with the Mali by the Coalition of the African alternatives debts and development (CAD-Mali) joining together the “altermondialists” developing countries. He wants to be against African top in G8.

Joined together at the same period as the top of the Heads of States and government of the G8, the forum of the people wants to be a “popular space of education, exchanges, of communication, of information, actions citizens and of construction of the alternatives to neoliberal globalization”. The forum of the people historically represents the first meeting citizen of the people of Africa in counterpoint at the top of the G8, which is presented besides in the form of “a against African top to G8 ”.

Editions 2002 and 2003

The first two editions were held with Siby.

Edition 2004

In 2004, the Forum of the people took place with Kita. At the conclusion of the debates of this 3rd Forum of the people, the participants adopted a final declaration which rejects the néo-liberal policy and requires in particular the democratization of the political systems, a participation of the people in the definition of the development policies, the construction of a public service of health and teaching accessible to all, the cancellation of the debt of the Third World countries, the stop of privatization, the rejection of the GMO, the right to protection of the farmers by the installation with the importation.

Edition 2005

The fourth forum of the people was held from July 6th to 9th 2005 with Fana, to a hundred kilometers of Bamako in direction of Ségou.

Edition 2006

The 5th edition of the Forum of the people took place with Gao from July 14th to 17th 2006. In a final declaration, the participants, come for the majority from Africa but also from Europe and North America, claimed “the suppression of the the IMF and the the World Bank and the setting-up of new institutions controlled democratically by the States and the citizens with the service of the real and durable development”, the stop of privatization and the nationalization of the strategic companies, the total and unconditional cancellation of the debt of the Third World countries. The participants also refuse “the selective policy of oppression and of immigration” and fast application resolution of the conflicts to the Darfur (Sudan), in Ivory Coast and with the the Middle East.

In a daring step, the edition 2006 was also the occasion to evaluate in a critical and constructive way the preceding editions and to give orientations to consolidate the event through its specific character.

Edition 2007

The 6th edition of the Forum of the people is held with Sikasso from June 4th to 8th 2007.
