Forum of Peace
The Forum of Peace is the third of the imperial Forums. It should be noted that the term “Peace” did not have the same significance as that which it can have today; it was about the Paix imposed by the Emperor of Rome or Pax romana possibly imposed by the weapons. Vespasien (69 - 79, Imperator Cæsar Vespasianus Augustus ) had made it besides build, between 71 and 75, to commemorate its victory over the Hebrew of Judaea.
It is about a monumental whole of 145 m out of 85 m, surrounded by an enclosing wall on three sides and of a large gantry with columns on the fourth side. It was built in the east of the Forum of Nerva, with the site of old the burnt Macellum in 64.
On the site of the Forum of Peace one could find:
- the Temple of the Peace (approximately 34 X 22 m) which contained the treasure recovered at the time of the catch of the Temple of Solomon to Jerusalem and of many other works of Article
- the Bibliothèque of the Forum of Peace ( Tabularium ) which contained the files of the urban prefecture, the cadrastal maps and a series of documents concerning the municipal work completed in particular under Vespasien and Septime Sévère as well as very a number of the works of the doctor Galien.
- celebrates It Forma Urbis (cadrastal map out of marble of Rome), new supplemented edition and update of the plan of Clutched, carried out in 73, and destroyed at the time of the large fire of 191.
- a garden.
The site of the Forum of Peace in modern Rome, is in space between via Cavour and the Colisée.
