Fort with the crown
The Fort with the Crown (in Swedish Skansen Kronan ), in top of a rock of the center of Gothenburg, was set up during second half of the 17th century according to the plans of Erik Dahlbergh.
The Fort with the crown owes its name with a gilded crown which surmounts it. A second fortification, the Fort with the lion - crowned by a gilded lion, located on a hill of the other end of the current downtown area makes him during.
These two forts, just like the Extremely of Nya Elfsborg in the mouth of the Göta älv, were to protect the new city (Gothenburg had been founded at the beginning of the 17th century) against the attacks from the Danes.
In the beginning the fort was outside the ramparts of the city. This one however grew so that it is located now in the Haga, one of the most animated districts of Gothenburg. Top of the rock one has a very beautiful sight on this district and all the downtown area.
The Fort with the crown is a military museum today.
