Fort-Mardyck

Fort-Mardyck (in Dutch: Fort-Mardijk ) is a common French, located in the department of the Northern and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Its inhabitants is called Fort-Mardyckois (be).
Situation
Located in the Dunkirk suburbs, Fort-Mardyck is connected to Lille (80 km) and Paris (300 km) by the highway A25, to the Channel tunnel via Calais by the A16/E40, and to Brussels by the A16/E40. Direct rail links at the beginning of Dunkirk bound for Calais, Lille, Paris, Marseilles. Channel with large gauge until Valencian.
History
The common car its name of the fort built in 1622 under the Spanish domination, to protect the western master key from Dunkirk- September 1657: seat by the French Army, Vauban takes part in it (without ordering)
- 1662: after the victory of Turenne at the time of the Battle of the Dunes, Louis XIV repurchases Dunkirk and the fort of Mardyck to the English. Colbert, Minister for the marine, installs a colony of sailors on the site of the fort.
- 1793 : the hamlet becomes common.
- 1800 : the hamlet is attached to the commune of Mardyck.
- 1830 : fastening with the Large-Synthe commune of .
- 1868 : the hamlet becomes again common independent.
- 2004 : December 5th the inhabitants of Fort-Mardyck and Saint-Pol.-on-Sea are consulted by referendum on fusion-association at the town of Dunkirk. Yes carries it to 54%, but obient only 24,25% of the registered voter instead of the 25% required by the law. Fusion-association is thus rejected by the prefect.
