In molecular Chemistry, a semi-developed formula is a simplification of a developed Formule planes, in which one does not represent the connections Carbone - Hydrogène.
The principle of representation of the Atome S is the same one: a letter, resulting from the periodic Tableau of the elements, and a feature by connection (or several if the connection is double or triple).

One can also reverse the C and the H to insist on the connections carbon-carbon, such as for example for the Propane, (C3H8):
One can also respect the geometry of the molecule, by respecting for example the angles of 120° certain molecules.
