AET : Acronym of Former child reared by the army . Former student of a military College, military College or of a preparatory military academy of the French Army .
A child reared by the army designated at the base a child whose father was Sous-officier (called non-commissioned officer at the time) or soldier and who followed the troop, in company of his family. Contrary to the children of officers who had schools to form them with soldiering, these children reared by the army did not have any means of having military formation other but that to engage as a soldier.
May 1st 1766, an ordinance of Louis XV improves the fate of these children by stipulating that in each company or Escadron of each regiment of the royal army, two budget headings from now on will be reserved for wire of non-commissioned officers or soldiers. Bonaparte, 1st Consul, in a decree promulgated in 1800, devotes between-others, officially name " Child of troupe".
In 1884, the preparatory military academies are created, thus removing the stations of children reared by the army in the regiments, then, in 1974, these preparatory military academies are transformed into military Colleges before reaching co-education and becoming into 1982 of the military colleges.
