Formation with the gestures and care emergency

The formations with the gestures and care emergency (FGSU) are formations with the First aid delivered in France with the personnel working in the sanitary institutions and medical-social. They give place to the delivery of a certificate of formation, AFGSU .

They were instituted by the decree of March 3rd, 2006 taken pursuant to the law n°2004-806 of August 9th, 2004 relating to the public health policy.

The creation of these formations rises from a will to clearly separate the formations general public (Prévention and helps civic, PSC), the formations on the work place (Prévention and help with work, PST), the formations bound for the voluntary first-aid workers and firemen (First aid equips with it, PSE) and the trainings bound for the personnel working in the sanitary institutions and medical-social. Previously, this personnel was titular Attestation of formation to first aid (AFPS), with first aid with material (AFCPSAM) or of the Certificat of formation to the activities of first aid in team.

The FGSU are delivered under the responsibility of the centers of teaching of the emergency care (Cesu), but not inevitably by them. They give necessary competences to:

the assumption of responsibility, only or in team, of a person in emergency bringing into play the vital prognosis or functional;
the application of measurements and the use of the individual means of protection and collectives vis-a-vis a risk with medical consequences.

Three education levels are distinguished:

AFGSU vis-a-vis a risk NRBC: for the health professionals;
AFGSU level 2: for the health professionals;
AFGSU level 1: for the other personnel working in the sanitary institutions and medical-social.

That concerns in particular the assistance-looking after, the auxiliary of child welfare, the Ambulancier S and auxiliary ambulance men, the people carrying out of the taking away in residence and the technicians of laboratories.

In addition to the gestures of first aid, it include/understand concepts of hygiene.

Their installation is progressive and is integrated in initial trainings and continuous. The detention of the AFGSU will be obligatory as from 2008.
