The format tabloïd is one of the small sizes usually adopted by the titles of the Written press all over the world. Born in Great Britain, where the word tabloid does not take a Tréma, it imposes on each sheet a dimension of 597 by 375 Millimètre S, (11x17 inches).

For reasons of Cost, many traditional newspapers such as The Independent and The Times passed to the format tabloïd. To be distinguished from the newspapers known as popular, the latter prefer compact speech of edition .

In France, the format tabloïd was a long time reserved under free Presse such as Métro or 20 minutes . But of many daily newspapers, in particular regional, adopted this format little by little. It is the free case of Charente but also of Libération or of the Free Havre .
