The format UDF/ISO is a hybrid format which functions like UDF, but which is compatible with the format ISO 9660.

Use

It was developed owing to the fact that UDF was not supported by Windows before version 98. Windows 95 OSR2 supports UDF Bridge .

The discs DVD-ROM use the format UDF Bridge. The specification of UDF Bridge explicitly does not include the Joliet extensions, necessary for the long file names. Windows 98 and the more recent operating systems of Microsoft do not have any problem to read the UDF or the long file names. It is the same for the systems containing Unix such Mac OS X and Linux.
