Formal Juan

Juan Formell is a Bassiste and Compositeur Cuba in born with Havana the August 2nd 1942. He learns the music with his father, Francisco Formell, flutist, pianist and arranger, then in Autodidacte. He plays initially in the orchestra of the police force of his district, then in the orchestras of There Pedro Jústiz (Peruchín), of Guillermo Rubalcaba, Carlos Faxas (it composes her first pieces for the singer Elena Burke.

In 1967, it joined Orquesta Revé of Elio Revé, and modernizes the structure of the group (of type Charanga) by replacing the Contrebasse by the electric Basse and the Piano by keyboards. He baptizes his style changui 68, in reference to the Changui, ancètre of the His Cuban.

In 1969, it founds its own group, Los Van Van which develops a new kind, the Songo and which will adopt in the Années 1990 the Timba, the last born of the cuban musical genres (the group recorded more than 25 albums in addition to 30 years of career).
