A forgiveness is a typically Breton form of Pèlerinage and one of the most traditional demonstrations of the popular Foi in Brittany. Of very old origin, since probably related to the evangelization of the country by the Monk S Celtic S, as of the 5th century, they are connected with the “parades” of the Saint Patrick in Ireland or with New York.
Displacement until the place of appointment, like the procession, translate the desire to be started to obtain Saint celebrated, by offering tirednesses of the way, which he intercedes for his pilgrims. This is to be brought closer to the conviction of Christian Foi that the human condition on this ground is a peregrination towards the Kingdom of the Ciel, Nouvelle Promised land. In this logic, the pilgrims are invited to confess their faults to the priests present, before taking part in the Messe, often followed solemn Vêpre S. The president of forgiveness, often an Ecclesiastical of the high ranking, bears the name of “pardonnor”. When there are some, he will carry during part of the procession the Relique S venerated.
