Forging mills of Buffon
Founded by Buffon in 1768, the Forges of Buffon are a site of the industrial archeology of the XVIIIe century.
They are with approximately three kilometers in the North-West of Montbard (Coast-with Or), at the edge of the Armançon and near the Canal of Burgundy.
The forging mills occupied 300 workmen. They gathered the industrial facilities, with the house of the Master and the working dwellings. The production was of 450 tons iron per annum.
One visits the Haut-fourneau, with his staircase of pageantry, and the forging mill, whose bellows were actuated by the force of the river (Paddle wheel). The Fer was cut out out of bars in the splitting mill using fluted rollers.
The house of Buffon shelters exposures; one visits also the Orangerie, the Potager and the Pigeonnier at the time of the European Journées of the inheritance (mid-September) only.
