produced forest others that wood also named “PFNL” ( Forest Produits Not Ligneux ) is exploited in almost 4 billion Hectare S of Forêt S, on approximately 30% of the emerged grounds.

Whereas the value of the Bois extract declines (64 billion dollars HAVE in 2005, according to FAO), the value of the PFNL increases regularly, but remains underestimated because only a weak share of these products is entered in the majority of the countries.

The extracted PFNL were developed in 2005 with height of 4,7 billion dollars HAVE (amount in increase world since 1990 according to FAO). The Seed S, Fruit S, plants edible, Mushroom S, Poisson S and Gibier S constitute often more than 50% of the pecuniary income of the forest, including in certain countries known as " riches" where hunting for big game remains an important tradition (France for example).

The PFNL are not necessarily marketed, they are it even seldom, except the game or the Viande of bush (which often constitute more than 50% of the financial income of the forest), but in the sector of the economy known as " informelle" they are the subject often of Troc or a traditional use by the bordering populations or autochtones alive in forest. An illegal traffic of animal species and other nonwoody products exist too.

FAO and UNO encouraged the States to enter the PFNL for the evaluation of the forests of the evaluation of the ecosystems for the millenium and reports/ratios FRA on the evaluation of the forests in the world.

These products must in addition be listed and entered for obtaining some écolabel S such as FSC (it is a recommendation in the case of PEFC). They can also the being (in France for example) in the documents of forest Aménagement , or of type PSG ( simple Plan of management ), forest charters, etc

Futurology

With the projections of the genetic Engineering and Biotechnology S in general, the Gene S and the Molecule S produced by the Canopée, the root S or other parts of the trees, or other forest organizations (whose bacteria and mushrooms) caused since the years 1970 an interest growing of the sector of the Chimie and industry pharmacy. The brevetage of living and the biopiratage are in the middle of debates on the forest and the Biodiversité since the failure of the signature of a world Convention on the Forest with the Sommet of the Earth of Rio (June 1992). The Protocole of Carthagène specifies nevertheless the rights of the states to lay out of the resources offered by the Biodiversité their forests.

Classification FAO of the PFNL

FAO for his reports/ratios FRA 2005, classified them in two categories (vegetable and animal)

Vegetable raw material

  1. Food S (Mushroom S)
  2. Fodder
  3. Raw material intended for the preparation of Drug aromatic S and/or products (essential oils.)
  4. Raw material intended for the production of Dye S or Dyeing S
  5. Raw material for manufacture of ustensils and objects of Craft industry, and for the Construction
  6. decorative Plants
  7. Exsudat S (resin S, latex, essential Oils, Perfume, Flavor S (a flavor strawberry is produced starting from wood) etc)
  8. Other crop products (foams, bark S.)

Livestock products/raw material

  1. Animal alive
  2. Leather S, skins and Trophy S
  3. Honey wild and Beeswax
  4. Meat of bush
  5. Raw material for the preparation of drugs
  6. Raw material for the preparation of dyes
  7. Other livestock products Edible S
  8. Other nonedible livestock products

Note:

  • certain species can be classified in several headings. For example the Miel extracts from a Ruche placed in forest or in Lisière forest must it be entered in the heading Agriculture or like “ forest produces”?
  • Certaines forest species is illegally developed by being the subject of a local or international traffic (protected spaces sold like meat of bush, traffic of animals or bodies, of which teeth and defenses of Ivoire, etc). ONG and certain researchers denounce also the Biopiratage forest genetic resources plundered in the countries poor, but rich in biodiversity, forest in particular.
  • the products resulting from the Agrosylviculture are sometimes difficult to classify (they are generally rather classified like agricultural produce or forest?)
