The equatorial Forêt of Ituri (or Aruwimi) is in Ituri, in the North-East of the Democratic republic of Congo. The forest of Ituri occupies a surface of approximately 63.000 square kilometres, and is located between 0° and 3°N and 27° and 30° E. altitude the forest is spread out of 700 m with 1000 Mr. the average temperature is of 31° C (88° F) and the average moisture of 85% (Wilkie 1987). Approximately 20% of the Equatorial forest are contituée Réserve of fauna with okapis, registered on the Liste of the world heritage UNESCO. The forest also lodges the Pygmy S Mbuti, one of the many people of hunters-gatherers living in the Forêt of the basin of Congo, characterized by their small size (on average less than one meter fifty). It were the object of a study of Colin Turnbull, The Forest People , in 1962.

The forest of Ituri was crossed for the first time by an European in 1887, Henry Morton Stanley, during the Expédition of help in Emin Pasha.
